Pricing

Honest, quoted-first pricing. Never hourly.

Everything I do is priced by skill and complexity, not the clock. Every job is quoted before it starts, so you know the cost up front. If I cannot fix it, you pay nothing — 18 years of that policy and counting. Remote jobs start at £45.

The rule, plainly

No hourly meter. No surprise invoices. No bill that creeps up the longer a job takes. You agree the price up front, I do the work, and that is the price you pay.

How I price

Priced on skill, not time

Hourly billing penalises experience. If I can solve a problem in twenty minutes that would take someone less experienced two hours, you should not pay more because they are slower. Priced-per-job keeps it fair both ways.

Priced on skill, not the clock

I do not charge by the hour. Quotes are based on the complexity of the job and the expertise needed. You will not be penalised because I am quick, and you will not be watching the meter wondering if I am stalling.

Every job quoted before it starts

Before I lift a screwdriver or remote in, you will have a clear price for the work. If more work is discovered along the way, I will stop and re-agree it with you — not spring it on you at the end.

No fix, no fee

If the problem turns out to be beyond what I can fix — bad hardware, specialist board-level work, a genuine dead end — I will tell you honestly and you will not be charged. That is how it has worked here for 18 years.

Free collection and return in Ayrshire

For longer bench jobs, collection and return is free anywhere in Ayrshire. That is part of the price, not an extra. Jobs outwith Ayrshire are still welcome — travel is quoted in advance.

Rough pricing

What jobs typically cost

Every job is quoted individually after I have heard the detail. These are honest starting points to give you a sense of the numbers — not hidden minimums, not bait prices.

Remote or on-site base fee

from £45

The starting price for quick remote fixes and short on-site jobs. Covers diagnosis plus the fix for simple, self-contained problems.

  • Short visits for printer setup, email fixes and quick Wi-Fi checks
  • A fixed price agreed before the work starts — never billed hourly

On-site Ayrshire visit for jobs that need to be seen in person: Wi-Fi diagnosis, router setup, multi-device setup, new-machine handovers and home-office support.

  • Full on-site diagnosis in the home or small office
  • Router, Wi-Fi, printer and network fixes done on the day where possible
  • Plain-English handover so you understand what was wrong and what changed

  • Malware and unwanted-software removal
  • Free collection and return anywhere in Ayrshire

Windows or macOS reinstall

  • Clean install with full updates, drivers and essential software
  • Restored files, email and printer access before I hand the machine back

Wi-Fi and network rescue

from £85

  • Full survey of coverage, speed and router placement
  • Setup of extenders, mesh or hardwiring where it is actually needed
  • Every device re-checked and re-connected before I leave

Small business IT support

ad-hoc from £65

  • Workstation, printer, network and email support
  • New-starter setup and on/off-boarding
  • Friendly escalation and provider liaison where needed

Prices by job type

Match the price guide to the service

If you already know the problem, these pages explain what is usually involved before you ask for a quote.

What is included in the price

Everything essential to actually finishing the job, not fragments of it.

  • Full diagnosis before a quote is given
  • All labour, regardless of how long the job actually takes
  • Free collection and return in Ayrshire for longer bench work
  • Plain-English explanation of what was wrong and what changed
  • Aftercare by email or phone after the job finishes

What is not included

Straight about this so there are no surprises on the invoice.

  • Hardware parts (drives, memory, routers, chargers) — quoted separately before ordering
  • New software licences (Microsoft 365, antivirus, specialist tools) — at cost, quoted first
  • Travel outwith Ayrshire — quoted up front before any visit is agreed
  • Specialist board-level repair or data recovery — referred to a trusted specialist where needed

What about free jobs?

A small number of free jobs are still kept aside each month for people in genuine hardship. That sits alongside paid work as a small, deliberate secondary strand — not the main service.

Free help is agreed in advance, never retrospectively. If cost is the genuine barrier, say so clearly in your first message and we can discuss whether your situation fits — before any work is quoted, agreed or started.

It works on trust. I do not ask you to prove anything on paper. In return, the agreement has to be explicit up front: you cannot get a job quoted, booked and done and then ask for it to be free at the end. That would not be fair on me, and it would not be fair on the next person who genuinely needs the free slot.

It is reserved for pensioners on fixed incomes, disabled people, unemployed people, carers and low-income households for whom paying £45–£85 is genuinely not possible. Asking for a free job because you would rather not pay is not hardship — and will politely be declined.

How hardship help works

Ready to ask for help?

Tell me what is going wrong and I will quote the fix.

Describe the problem in plain English. I come back to you with the likely cause, the approach and a fixed quote — before any work starts.
