Laptop Repair Ayrshire

Laptop repair across Ayrshire: slow laptops, startup faults, malware removal, cleanup, upgrades and an honest verdict on whether it is worth keeping.

Quoted first, every time

Every job is quoted up front, priced on skill and complexity — never hourly. Remote work starts from £45. If I cannot fix it, you do not pay.

Most slow laptops are not broken. They are clogged. Years of updates, half-removed software, leftover scheduled tasks, overheating from dust-blocked fans, and drives running at 95% full will bring any machine to its knees. A proper service usually brings them back to life for a fraction of the cost of replacement.

I do full laptop servicing across Ayrshire — collected for free, worked on properly, returned in better shape than you remember. Windows, Mac, Chromebook and Linux all welcome. You get an honest verdict at the end: keep it and enjoy another few years, or let it go and upgrade to something sensible.

A laptop fault often overlaps with these pages: slow laptop checks if speed is the main complaint; laptop Wi-Fi help if the laptop alone will not connect; will-not-turn-on triage if there is no sign of life.

Ready to get it fixed?

Send the problem in plain English. I will reply with the sensible next step and a clear quote before anything is booked.

Before you book

Three quick checks to help you decide whether to try one thing first or ask me to take over.

Good fit if

Use this page when a laptop is slow, overheating, refusing updates, not starting cleanly or needs collected for a proper bench service.

Try this first

Plug it into power, restart once, and avoid cleanup apps that promise miracle speed fixes. They often make diagnosis harder.

Ask me when

Ask me before replacing it if the laptop is less than eight years old or contains photos, documents, accounts or business files.

What to know first

Why this happens, and what I check first

Plain-English notes to help you decide whether to try one quick check, book help, or stop spending money on the wrong fix.

01

A proper laptop service is not just a 'clean install and hope for the best'. It is methodical: health check the drive, check the RAM, clear out bloatware and leftover installers, run genuine malware scans (not the pop-up rubbish), repair the system file store, refresh drivers, clean the cooling system, update the BIOS where safe, sort startup bloat, and finish with a full post-service speed test.

02

Two things that make the biggest speed difference on older laptops: replacing a spinning hard drive with an SSD, and adding RAM if it only has 4GB. Both are cheap, both are genuinely transformative, and both get quoted transparently before any part is ordered. An 8-year-old laptop with an SSD and 8GB of RAM is a completely different machine to the same laptop on its original kit.

03

The honest part matters here too. If a laptop is genuinely past it — a dead motherboard, a cracked screen on a £300 machine, a model that cannot run modern Windows — I will tell you. A clean handover to a sensibly chosen replacement is often better value than pouring money into a machine that is only going to give you another six months.

Not quite this?

Some faults overlap. If this is not quite the problem you have, these pages may be a better fit.

Areas I cover

I visit homes and businesses across Ayrshire, with free collection and return when a repair needs bench time.

Problems this covers

Recognise any of these? If so, you are in the right place.

  • Laptop takes five minutes to start and another two minutes to open anything
  • Battery dying after 30 minutes instead of the 4+ hours it used to manage
  • Fan screaming constantly and machine hot enough to worry about
  • Laptop full of pop-ups, toolbars and software you never installed
  • Windows refusing to update, or stuck on an update that never finishes
  • Passing an older laptop between relatives and wanting it set up cleanly

What the work usually includes

These are included when the job needs them.

  • Full diagnostic health check before any work is quoted
  • Cleanup of bloatware, startup items, leftover installers and temp files
  • Malware removal using proper tools, not pop-up scanners
  • Windows or macOS refresh with drivers, updates and essential software
  • Physical cooling clean where needed
  • Honest verdict on whether the machine is worth keeping
  • Free collection and return in Ayrshire

Who this helps

The people I usually help with this kind of problem.

  • Owners of 3–8 year old laptops that have slowed right down
  • Families passing a laptop down to a son, daughter or parent
  • Students heading into a new term with a tired machine
  • Small-business owners who rely on one laptop every day
  • Anyone thinking of replacing but wanting a second opinion first

Why book me for this?

You deal with the person who quotes the work and does the job.

  • 18 years of laptop servicing across every brand and era
  • Fixed price quoted first — no hourly meter, no scope-creep
  • Free collection and return anywhere in Ayrshire
  • Honest about repair vs replace — I will not sell you a repair you do not need

Pricing for this service

A clear starting point before you decide. Every job is quoted individually before any work starts.

Full laptop servicing typically starts from £75. SSD upgrades and RAM upgrades are quoted separately before any parts are ordered.

Pricing is based on the job, never a ticking clock. You know the price before I start.

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask about this

No jargon and no vague promises. If something is not here, ask and I will give you a straight answer.

How long does a laptop service take?

Most services are a 24–48 hour turnaround with free collection and return in Ayrshire. Quicker is often possible for urgent work — just say so when you get in touch.

Should I just buy a new laptop instead?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. For most 3–6 year old laptops, a service plus a small SSD upgrade gives you another few years at a fraction of new-laptop money. For genuinely tired machines, I will say so honestly and help you pick a sensible replacement.

Will I lose my files?

No. Full backup before anything destructive is standard. If a reinstall is needed, your documents, photos, email and settings are backed up first and restored afterwards.

What if I genuinely cannot afford this?

The main service is paid now, but a small number of free jobs are still kept aside each month for people who genuinely cannot afford repair.

Free help is by prior agreement only, never retrospectively. If cost is the real barrier, say that clearly in your first message before any work is quoted, booked or started.

It is reserved for pensioners on fixed incomes, disabled people, unemployed people, carers and low-income households. It is not a way of asking for a discount after the fact.
