How much do you charge?

Quick jobs start at £45. Home visits typically start from £65, and larger jobs like full servicing or Wi-Fi rescues have their own starting prices. I do not bill by the hour — every job is quoted before I start, based on skill and complexity, so you know the cost up front and I am never incentivised to drag it out.

Why do you not charge by the hour?

Because hourly billing punishes experience. If I can sort something in 15 minutes that a newer technician would take two hours on, you should not pay more for their slower day. Pricing by the job also stops any nervous clock-watching on your side — you know the number before I begin.

What if you cannot fix it?

Then you pay nothing. I will always be honest if a problem is beyond me or beyond economic repair — sometimes the right advice is to replace rather than fix. No-fix-no-fee has been the rule here since day one.

How do I ask about a free repair for someone?

If cost is the reason someone cannot get essential tech working, especially an older person who relies on Wi-Fi, email or video calls, contact me before booking and say it is a hardship request. Family, neighbours, carers and local groups can refer someone. I keep a small number of free repairs for genuine need, agreed before the visit.

Do you come to the house?

Yes. Most jobs are best seen in person. I cover all of Ayrshire as standard for home visits — Ayr, Kilmarnock, Irvine, Prestwick, Troon, Saltcoats, Ardrossan, Largs and surrounding areas. Outwith Ayrshire is possible too, with travel quoted in advance.

Do you collect and return devices?

Yes. If a laptop or desktop needs longer bench work, I will collect it free, do the job properly away from your property, and return it — anywhere in Ayrshire, at no extra charge. That is part of the price, not an add-on.

How does remote support work?

I send you a simple link, you click it while we are on the phone, and I connect to your computer so we can fix the problem together. You see everything I do, and you can end the session at any time. It is often the fastest and cheapest way to handle straightforward software problems.

Who actually does the work?

Me personally. My name is Graeme, and I have been doing this in Ayrshire for 18 years — since I was a teenager working out of my bedroom in Ayr. There is no team of technicians, no subcontractors and no call-centre handover. You book me, you get me.

Of course — it is one of the most common reasons people get in touch. Tell me who I am actually helping, and whether you want me to deal with them directly or loop you in. I will make the whole thing easier on everyone.

Do you sell hardware or push upgrades?

No hard sell, ever. If a part or replacement is genuinely needed, I will explain why and leave the choice with you. I would rather give you honest advice on whether a machine is worth repairing than sell you something you do not need.

Most jobs are booked within a few days — often sooner for urgent business problems. Say in your first message how urgent it is, and I will be straight with you about availability.

The contact form is the quickest way. Describe the problem briefly, mention your area, and say up front if cost is the reason you cannot book paid help. I reply personally to every genuine message.
