Laptop Will Not Connect To Wi-Fi

Help when one laptop will not join Wi-Fi, keeps dropping out, or says it is connected but still has no internet.

Quoted first, every time

Every job is quoted up front, priced on skill and complexity — never hourly. Remote work starts from £45. If I cannot fix it, you do not pay.

If only your laptop will not connect to Wi-Fi, the router may not be the problem. The fault is often a saved password, wireless adapter, driver, DNS setting or Windows update that broke networking quietly.

I can fix this remotely when the laptop still has some internet access, or visit if the router and Wi-Fi need checked in the property.

Ready to get it fixed?

Send the problem in plain English. I will reply with the sensible next step and a clear quote before anything is booked.

Before you book

Three quick checks to help you decide whether to try one thing first or ask me to take over.

Good fit if

Use this page when one laptop will not connect but phones, tablets or other devices still use the Wi-Fi normally.

Try this first

Forget the Wi-Fi network on the laptop, reconnect with the password, then restart the laptop before changing router settings.

Ask me when

Ask me when the laptop says connected with no internet, refuses the right password, or stopped working after a Windows update.

What to know first

Why this happens, and what I check first

Plain-English notes to help you decide whether to try one quick check, book help, or stop spending money on the wrong fix.

01

First, check whether other devices can use the same Wi-Fi. If phones and tablets are fine, the laptop is the focus. If everything is affected, you are dealing with a router, broadband or coverage problem instead.

02

Second, forget and rejoin the network. Saved Wi-Fi profiles can hold old passwords or security settings after a router change. A clean reconnect solves more cases than people expect.

03

Third, check the wireless adapter. Windows updates can replace drivers, disable adapters or create odd DNS settings. That is where a proper repair beats repeated router restarts.

Areas I cover

I visit homes and businesses across Ayrshire, with free collection and return when a repair needs bench time.

Problems this covers

Recognise any of these? If so, you are in the right place.

  • Laptop will not connect to Wi-Fi
  • Laptop connects but has no internet
  • Internet works on phone but not laptop
  • Wi-Fi password is correct but laptop refuses it
  • Laptop stopped connecting after an update
  • Wi-Fi is slow only on one computer

What the work usually includes

These are included when the job needs them.

  • One-device versus whole-house diagnosis
  • Saved network, password and adapter checks
  • Wireless driver repair or reinstall
  • DNS/IP repair where needed
  • Router and coverage checks if the fault is not just the laptop
  • Remote or home visit depending on what is actually possible

Who this helps

The people I usually help with this kind of problem.

  • Laptop users whose other devices still work online
  • Home workers who need a laptop back online quickly
  • Older residents confused by Wi-Fi password and update prompts
  • Students or families with one unreliable laptop

Why book me for this?

You deal with the person who quotes the work and does the job.

  • I diagnose the laptop and router separately
  • I avoid selling Wi-Fi hardware for a laptop-only fault
  • Remote help is used where it is genuinely practical
  • Quoted first, with no-fix-no-fee honesty

Pricing for this service

A clear starting point before you decide. Every job is quoted individually before any work starts.

Laptop Wi-Fi faults can start from £45 remotely. If router or home Wi-Fi diagnosis is needed, visits usually start from £65.

Pricing is based on the job, never a ticking clock. You know the price before I start.

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask about this

No jargon and no vague promises. If something is not here, ask and I will give you a straight answer.

Why does Wi-Fi work on my phone but not my laptop?

That usually means the broadband and router are working, and the laptop has a saved network, driver, adapter or DNS problem.

Can you fix this without visiting?

Sometimes, if the laptop can get online another way. If it has no connection at all, a home visit is often quicker.

Do I need a new router?

Not usually for a laptop-only fault. I only recommend router replacement when the diagnosis shows the router is actually the cause.

What if I genuinely cannot afford this?

The main service is paid now, but a small number of free jobs are still kept aside each month for people who genuinely cannot afford repair.

Free help is by prior agreement only, never retrospectively. If cost is the real barrier, say that clearly in your first message before any work is quoted, booked or started.

It is reserved for pensioners on fixed incomes, disabled people, unemployed people, carers and low-income households. It is not a way of asking for a discount after the fact.
