Home visits
Home visits — when remote support is not enough
Remote support is tried first for most problems, as it is faster and requires no travel. Home visits are reserved for situations that genuinely need someone there in person, and are prioritised by need when demand is high.
Remote support comes first
Most problems — including laptops, email, passwords and devices — are fixed by connecting to the computer directly over the internet. No visit needed.
The three ways we help
Start with the simplest option
Support is matched to the problem. Most things are sorted without a visit — but when a visit is needed, it is arranged.
Email and messaging
For simple questions, quick advice and friendly reassurance. No need to book anything — just ask and a response will follow.
Remote support
The first line for most technical issues. A direct connection to the computer lets problems be fixed while the person watches — no travel, no fuss.
Home visits
Reserved for problems that cannot be sorted remotely. Limited availability, with priority given to older, disabled and isolated people when demand is high.
Remote support is tried first
Most issues are resolved by connecting directly to the computer remotely. It is faster, requires no travel and works well for the majority of problems.
Home visits for what remote cannot solve
Wi-Fi dead spots, router setup, printer connections and multi-device problems often need to be seen in the home. A visit is arranged when remote support is not enough.
Limited availability, prioritised by need
Home visits are reserved for cases that genuinely require them. When demand is high, they are prioritised for older, disabled and isolated people whose need is greatest.
What a visit might include
The aim is to solve the real issue, explain what is happening and reduce the stress around it.
- Checking the broadband connection and router setup
- Helping laptops, phones, tablets and printers connect properly
- Explaining settings, sign-ins and basic steps in plain English
- Sorting a few connected issues in one visit where possible
Honest about capacity
Home visits are limited. When more people request them than can be accommodated, they are prioritised based on need — particularly for older, disabled, isolated or housebound people.
If a visit cannot be arranged immediately, remote support or email advice will be offered in the meantime.
If something cannot be sorted during a visit, that is explained clearly and without pressure.
